Locally... 2 years ago...  the organizers knew folks were planning to cheat with weights and magnets so one of the Aerojet Rocketdyne Dads rigged up a MADs under the track with feedback coils.  Cars with metal axles zipped right through.  The first couple with neodymium magnets either came to abrupt stops or got blown completely off the track.   Amazingly about 14 cars had mechanical failures and had to withdraw before their first heats.
