Is it mechanical shortcomings causing problems, or did the manual just didn’t jive with the engine ECU? There wasn’t too much increase in HP and torque between the 550 and 575, so I can’t see how that would cause problems. The manual is even rarer with the 599 series. How did those cope? Then someone sold a 550/575 for stupid money and the prices went through the roof
I did my home work and checked with several techs on the pros and cons
The 550 was designed around the manual transmission
Not the 575, the left over transmissions from the previous runs of the 550 were installed on 575 and sent to dealers !
Yep that’s why there are only maybe 300 world wide
It’s what they had on the shelf and they wanted to get them out the door ( gee you don’t think Ferrari has done that before do ya)
But here is the rest of the story, they don’t work well in the 575 for some unknown reason
In one of the FML issues about an auction a PPI on a manual 575 stated “ difficulty in shifting “
And they are still asking 4 times what the car is worth for a slush box ( why I don’t know the modern day buyer doesn’t know how to drive a manual, you always see clutch replaced, I’ve owned my TR for over 100k with only one clutch in it replace )
Considering I have a 512 TR already, did I really need another manual?
I have driven the 612 Scag with the F-1 box and I liked it
So that’s the rest of the story as they say
You guys know me I will put 10k on it in a year and drive it year round
Have a trip already planned to ORD and PHL this fall and winter!
In all the 550/575 I looked at I never saw one advertisement for a car that had above 46K miles on it, and that guy lived in NJ
So let the shake down cruise begin on the 575
Chief bring her out to L-1 and get her ready
She’s going out today!
