_________________________________________________________________In regards to the water pump, considering it’s a ’78, check first to see which one it is, a small bearing or large bearing pump. It would be quite obvious if it’s a small bearing pump as the “nose” is rather skinny. I had found with my ’75 GT4’s pump, I’d have to rebuild that thing every year, even when I was driving the car a lot. The seal diameter was just too small for the application/ capacity and would leak. I switched to a large bearing pump (that was rebuilt by a U.S. east coast specialist [whose name escapes me at the moment. Rob Garven recommended him to me]) and I installed it ten years ago and it’s still bone-dry. Ferrari introduced them with the QV models, but they’re backwards compatible and were used on the 288 GTO and F40 too.
Obviously, if you see a drip of coolant from the weep hole, it’s rebuild time.
Don’t buy the new large-bearing pumps, even from official Ferrari suppliers. They’re Chinese made sand-cast junk. Try to find a used, die-cast pump and have it rebuilt.

Subject: [Ferrari] Advice on what to do and were to get parts?? 308 re commissionHiya guys,
Long time no post. I have decided that the time is high to get the 308 back on the road.
I bought it 12 years ago, right after it had a fully dealer service at 60000 miles. I drive it 2000 miles and have hardly used it since. It has not run in 3 years.
I have a very good workshop and the skills to do a service and get it back on the road and I am making a list of what needed and looking at where to buy the parts needed.
Please take a look at my list and see what I might have missed or what might not really be needed...
Regards
Gavin
