Hmmmm - Car battery goes dead for no particular phantom drain.  Nicely called a Vampire Drain.

Picture this – about 10 years ago, at a Ford dealership where my buddy worked, they had a series of SUV’s or Bronco batteries go dead over a three day period.  Charge up to green? – three days - dead.  New battery? Three days – dead.  WTF (highly technical Ford term: Why’s That Ford? – praying to Father Henry)

Now at least in this instance a Ford tech was able to inquire US (world?) wide “hey – anybody else gots this problem?”  Maybe using OASIS.  After which someone would pop up with an not-yet-in-the-book answer.  In this case – lucky Bob got an answer.  Bad ground connection at RF ABS.  Yep.  Lot boy would park the car using the foot brake to stop the vehicle at its final position and shut down.  The ABS on the RF wheel picked up the wheel is locked in a skid and try to release it through the brain.  And try, and try and try.  Until the battery went dead.  Checked the grounds, reset them, and viola – a happy wheel ABS, a live battery for a long long time, and they lived happily ever after.

Amazing.  I just love computers and cars.

Cheers

DOUG
