Peter didn't mention that it is 2 tone black.  Yup.  I'll let him explain.

First photo is when the first owner had it back in 1977. FCA member Bill Badurski of Chicago, IL. Bought it brand new from Joe Marchetti’s International Auto. Pic was taken just before he traded it in for a Daytona.

Can we see the rest of your car?

I faced the same problem (as do everyone else) with the 308’s oil cooler hoses. Same thing, buying the factory parts would cost four figures.

I went to one of our hydraulics suppliers for our company and worked out an alternative set-up, converting the original banjo hoses to more common JIC flared fittings. This stuff is made to handle 1000+ PSI, so, well within the operating pressures of an engine. I believe my total cost for all the pieces was under $200 CDN. And this stuff can be found at any hydraulic shop in North America.

Oh, and the oil cooler sprung a leak too and replaced that with an aftermarket type as well! A couple of hundred bucks instead of $1000+ (mind you, I did have to make a custom bracket and air duct to accommodate the different size).

Clyde,

I had to replace the power steering lines on my 2004 575M a little over a year ago at circa 35K miles.

As I recall, they had to be custom made in Italy and took about a week and a half to get delivery.

Only one of the originals was leaking, but I was required to buy the pair of new ones (…..which I would have done anyway. Sure as hell, I’d replace the leaker and 100 miles later the second one would leak)

The replacement power steering lines weren’t cheap, as I recall….about $1500 USD for the pair.

In my experience, any part for a Ferrari is 3 to 4 times the cost of similar parts for American machines. Same thing for tee shirts, polo shirts….anything with the Ferrari logo.

At the same time, I had fluid replacements and flushes of brake system, coolant system, gear box, and power steering system. All clean….no leaks.

In general, I think the quality of Italian automotive hoses is subpar. I replace the coolant hoses underneath the induction system with silicone hoses.

Dick Petrick
