I do remember in period.

There was a fabulous series in a long gone Italian periodical "Style Auto" that detailed the development of the GT40, J Car and Mark IV across multiple issues.  A lot of details including the aerodynamics, Le Mans track speeds at various points and the development of the aesthetic design.  

Ford's money forever changed racing - testing programs, driver pay, team members, logistics.  Recently saw something where Forghieri said that Ford tried to hire him away from Ferrari at one point.  One of the years the Fords were breaking windshields so Ford had new ones made in the US and flown to Le Mans - can't remember if they were chartering the freighters or using their corporate jets.
