Hello Peter

The blue car’s interior is very similar to #1021’s as pictured on pp 176, upper left picture, in Ronnie Spain’s book “GT40.”

Why do I say that?  If you can get a gander at Spain’s book, look at the gear shift knob proximity to the steering wheel.  Very narrow.  I had to put the car into 5th (4th?) gear to get my leg, just above the knee, through the narrow space.  And on the ‘console’ there are two white buttons (they look like doorbell buzzer buttons):  One was the starter button and the other was the horn button.  Of course.  Flip on two electric fuel pumps – when they stop ticking, depress accelerator once and hit the starter. And the little 289 Cobra race engine came to life -  BLAM – 3,000 RPM.   The dash board, steel, was from some RHD Ford production vehicle – which I thought at the time was pretty cleaver.

Wish I had been more attentive recording details at this time in history – but heck – at that time it was just a beat up fun looking Ford sorta race car.

Ach (now giving self a dope slap on forehead)

Cheers

Doug

Hoo Ha - - - 1967 or 8.  One of the street GT40’s.  Skinny kid in white shirt and shades is me – too cool.  We took it down Hawthorne Blvd for a block or two.  Too scary to do anything else.  We couldn’t see what we were doing and others couldn’t see us and it was hotter than hell in that fish bowl.  Clutch like an in and out box – NO play what so ever and the drive train with square cut lower gears (?) quite noisy I must say.  Car was pretty beat up.  Told it came from Texas.  The back deck had come loose at some speed and smashed the Perspex rear window out of it.  Oh mama – I gotta get one of these.

Cheers
