Rob,
Here's a story for you.
One day in my mid-20s, I decided I would make true on my brash statement I'd been making since middle school, which was "I will own a Ferrari within 10 years after I graduate from college." I was a little early at age 26, but I knew what I wanted -- the same car on my poster from middle school, a Ferrari 308.
The first affordable one I went to look at was up at a place that mostly specialized in MGs (aptly called "Octagon Spares") up in Pennsylvania. I live in Virginia so it was a couple hour drive. They also had a 328, a Boxer (which I would have vastly preferred but was WAY out of my range), and a gold fiberglass 308 GTB. But the one I could afford was listed as a 308 GT4.
I got there and we went into what I recall as being a barn or a warehouse to look at this 308, my dream car. What is this? Is this a Ferrari? It has back seats, for crying out loud! It was angular and ugly. This isn't a 308, is it? I asked the seller "who can fit in those backseats anyway?" He replied "very small children or amputees." I didn't even drive it, I knew I didn't want it. I did drive the 328 but it was too pricey.
Fast forward many many years and as many of us on this list, we've watched the evolution of your 308GT4(s), and I have to say that it is because of the photos you've posted and the stories you've shared, that I have a real ache in my heart for a 308GT4 now. The Bertone design that I had never seen and certainly didn't appreciate as a teenager and early 20's guy, that has faded away and turned into a real appreciation. :-)
So....thanks for sharing! And I'm really glad that it wasn't as catastrophic a failure as you'd first thought.

As others have said, I was very relieved and happy that you did not have a catastrophic event and that both cars are on their feet. You have great cars, *AND* a great garage! Enjoy them in good health! 🙂 (and yeah, the time change stinks - I wish they'd just leave us all on DST....)

My garage is more like a display case than a proper workshop. Although
in fine weather I have lots of light! The time change really put a dent in
everything but being able to have both cars on wheels is a triumph for me!
