The electricity supply is the least of the issue. In simply terms it would take the worlds entire current supply of colbalt to make enough batteries for just the U.K. car market for 1 year of sales. Not to mention the other rare metals
required. There isn’t the supply of these metals
and the demand from all the other countries going 100 percent electric would have to be considered. I work in the li ion battery industry. What you are reading is politics. Boris Johnson needed a headline before sitting in an interview
with David Attenborough. It won’t happen. No politician in the U.K. is going to force people into expensive electric cars that quickly.
I like electric cars, they have a place but it will be a long time and we need new types of batteries that don’t depend on mining in the DRC before they replace all ice cars. ( or only the very rich will drive and the rest will have to
walk and no politician gets re-elected on those terms...)

Thanks for that link.
It would be interesting to know how much of a demand will be placed on all of the infrastructure to support the fleet of electric cars charging off of it. Especially on a national scale.
It doesn’t take much to cause “brown-outs” and complete failures of various energy grids, during hot summer months with heavy A/C use. I can’t see how much capacity would be left over to charge cars on top of that.
Or, does it really take that much to charge an electric car?...

Mainly coal, natural gas and nuclear.
Renewables are starting to displace the carbon based ones.
What is England’s main method of generating electricity? Hydroelectric? Wind? Nuclear? Coal? All of the above?...

We only have a few more years of water cooled cars to worry about...
That’s a 2008, which is a 997 generation. The water cooled cars never really went stupid like the air cooled cars did.
Plus that one still has 6+ hours left. BaT often adds most of its value in the closing minutes / added minutes of auctions.
