I agree. Things are getting out of hand. Cancelled or online college classes, sports events with no crowds, talk of shutting down NYC subways (as if there aren’t worse germs there every day), people afraid to go to conferences, runs on disinfectant and toilet paper, it’s nuts. The number of US deaths is still less than the number of people killed in The Nashville tornado last week.

We cannot become hermits. We should take normal precautions but we still need to get on with our lives.

Go to NYC and enjoy yourself. You probably have a higher risk of getting confronted by idiot Mayor De Blasio than catching the virus.

But, just in case you don’t make it, can I have your 575?  😃

FWIW, the key symptom with this virus is shortness of breath (along with the typical symptoms you described).

I’m not surprised by the other figures you quoted.

Read this morning an interesting article from a noted analyst.  Up
until recently, there were around 80 flights per day from China to the
US.  The virus was more or less discovered in mid-January, but
epidemic specialists say that infers infections likely started in
December, if not earlier.  So we had roughly 2 months of flights with
possible infected persons on board.  Given the estimated transmission
rate of 2.5 to 3.5, it's entirely possible that the US has thousands -
probably 10s of thousands - of undiagnosed Corona cases (no, not
thousands of cases of beer.....) currently in this country.  Since
hospitals are charging $3000 for testing, few symptomatic people are
getting tested.  I know I won't shell out the funds personally.  Have
you had a persistent cough or perhaps some feverish episodes?  You
might be carrying!
