There is no recovering from Polio Damaged tissue.  My sister in law was in an iron lung for over a year in the 50's  She is doing quite well still, in her late 70's, but, half of her larynx and esophagus are still paralyzed.  One of the problems for Polio survivors is that most all of the Doctors that knew all about it are either retired or gone.  She gets exceptional care in the Kaiser system in LA with one of the top Doctors looking after her; he happened to specialize in treating polio as a young Doctor.

I had classmates at MIT in the early 60’s who had incompletely recovered from polio. Most apparent from withered leg muscles. I was fortunate and was an early receiver of the then new Salk polio vaccine.  Must have been around 1956 when I got the series of shots.

Most of you are to young to remember the polio virus which hit us in the 50’s,

I do.

I know Col Luke remembers it! 

This is the same thing.

People didn’t know how they contracted  polio, they close swimming pools etc.

Then they found a cure.

The internet is overall a good thing, but I am having my doubts about it spreading false information.

Relax, go about your daily lives. 

This too shall pass, just as polio did.
