Well Michael - a new rubber gasket? Hmmmmm Lets go shopping.

Let's start with basics . . . Ferrari, in 1981 was small. As Dean Martin would
say in The Cannon Ball Run . . "He's small - s. m. all" - - and so they most
likely didn’t hand make special gaskets for their special cars for a special
sized pressure cap a bunch of gaskets. Someone else did. And a lot of Euro
cars used them.

SO unless your constables have a bounty on geezers walking about or going to
'non-essential' stores - take your cap into all the sports car shops, hand them
THE cap and tell'em "I need a gasket for this". What's it for they will ask.
NEVER say what it goes on - you'll never get it. Instead - do the following:

Lessee - 1981, Enzo era over with - now it's the Fiat era . . . try a Fiat
shop. And when Tony asks "What's it go on?" fumble around a bit and say -
Um, my uncle put a Fiat motor in a Model T 20 years ago and . . . . . If you
get the right parts guy and the phone isn’t ringing off the hook - he should be
able to fix you up. A good parts guy will know just about everything there is
in his storage bins and what's on his cars - even if he has to order it. Try
some plumbing shop suppliers too. The places where plumbers go to buy their
goodies

Good luck Michael - keep us posted. You're good at that.

Onward
Doug

Subject: [Ferrari] Reservoir pressure cap

i need a new radiator (overflow reservoir) pressure cap for my 308 1981 GTSi.
The rubber is all cracked, it’s 10 years old with some rust.
Everybody on Ebay is asking around $30 u.s. plus ridiculous shipping cost.
Ricambi is asking $28 u.s. plus shipping, etc.
The cheapest is SUPERFORMANCE in England at 8.5 pounds. With shipping, that
should cost me $25.00 cad.

Any other alternatives ? I mean, such an easy part to find, why should I need
to have it shipped from England.

I’ve given up on the oil pressure switch. Way too difficult, too tight in
there. There is just no room . I’ll have my mechanic do it. I’ll just put my
new oil lines and oil cooler on and get it to the garage as soon as possible.
Spring is here, time to drive the little red car.

Michael Savard (1918 308 GTSi)
