I prefer the line that all of us nonconformists are all alike...

This reminds me exactly of our local collector who passed away many years ago, which I mentioned in some of our phone calls. Although this fellow – Gerry Benzon – was an owner of several important Ferraris, including his most prized possession, a 500 TR, s/n: 0634 MDTR. I have the build sheets the factory sent him along with many, many items. He passed away back in 2009 and a local automobilia store was contracted to sell off the collection. The store owner is a good friend of mine and he told me how much this guy was a pack-rat of collecting this Ferrari stuff! Thousands of model cars, hundreds of pieces of factory race clothing (pit crew shirts, coveralls, etc), thousands of brochures, books, factory documents. He mentioned it was incredible but sad at the same time. It was never put away properly, just stacked and stuffed, like a hoarder... And now I’ve got my mini-hoard of Ferrari automobilia, ha ha!

Hey Rob, do you have that green prototype model? That is so cool and autographed too!

All,

Well I didnt get the red book….:-)

Here are some pics Harold sent me. Il scan some more he sent in Enzo bedroom etc…
The second one was what he brought back from a trip to Italy.
He had a large collection which was sold after he passed. I ended up with his helmet, Ferrari calendar (very cool),
the starfighter, and an f1 steering wheel enzo gave him. He also sent me an autographed picture of Piero, and I bought a few really rare items from him.
Unbelievable guy, not sure why he never had a Ferrari but like me obsessed with the brand, and I know he saw that in me! He was tremendous collector
and had file cabinets of ever brochure of other crazy things like checker cabs if I remember. I think he flew a recreation of the wright brothers first plane.
I was getting around to asking him about the UFO’s at WPAFB, when I didnt hear from him, and learned he passed. Like Peter and all of you, some of my
best friends have been made staring into this box………

Okay, makes sense. You told me about Harold, but I didn’t realize he was that close to the top. I also didn’t realize he was still around when you met Piero and got in touch with him. Very cool! And you also saved yourself a couple grand!

I met Piero Ferrari at one of the rodeo drive car shows and had a short conversation with him. I became friends with a gentleman on the Internet who was one of Enzo Ferrari‘s personal friends, Harold Angel who was actually the attorney general of Ohio at one point.

He told me lots of crazy stories but he was close friends with the Ferrari family inner circle. He even had a painting made of a race that Enzo hung in his personal bedroom at Fiorano. Enzo Ferrari said he liked him because since he did not own a Ferrari he didn’t feel like he was a customer. When he would go visit Enzo in Italy he would always loan him a Ferrari to drive around the country. When you’re when he went there he said he wanted a GT four but Enzo says why do you want that because let me loan you a boxer but Harold insisted on the Dino.

Long story short he got me in touch with Piero and I reminded him of our meeting at the car show and asked him if he could take up some information on my car. Unbelievably the day of the course 40th birthday I received a package in the mail and it was the build sheet.

I struck up a very intimate personal online relationship with Harold and one day he went in for a minor procedure and passed away. I started out buying a few little items from him and ended up getting the helmet that Ferrari gave him to drive around Fiorano.

Very strange story but true. If you guys are interested I can share some more of the photos he sent me.
