You hear about dry heat all the time
Listen the desert and your oven is dry heat !
And you use your oven to cook
So it’s just as bad in my opinion or worse

It’s just that part of the country. I grew up in Montreal and remember the sweaty, sweaty summers. We had one A/C unit in the living room window that managed to keep most of the upper level of the house cool. Dad’s cars, starting with the ’84 Mercury Topaz had A/C.

We get heat out here in the west, but it’s a dry heat. The Okanagan region regularly touches the 100*F mark during the summer.

July and August get bone dry during the summer in Vancouver. Then the rest of the year it’s soaking wet monsoons.

About Canadian cars with no a/c:

Granted this was in the 80’s but we went to cottage country outside of Toronto for a friend’s wedding in July.

When I reserved the rental car, I didn’t even think about specifying a/c since in the states that was standard rental car equipment. When we arrived Toronto was in the middle of a real heat wave and naturally there were no a/c cars available to switch to. Okay, no problem, we won’t be driving much once we get to the destination.

All of the guests were staying at a lovely inn right on a lake. No air conditioning in the rooms, just in a single common tv room. We all slept with our room doors open trying to get some sort of a cross breeze. If it helped, we didn’t notice. We wished there were some staff there to wave the snow shovels like big bladed fans to keep the air moving. One of the most uncomfortable sleepless nights I have ever experienced.

To top it off, the Toronto airport was going through a major renovation and there was no a/c in the gate areas while we waited through typical flight delays.

After an entire weekend with no a/c anywhere, I was never so happy to get back to hot and humid, but air conditioned, New York!

Not

It starts snowing there after Labor Day!

They put snow tires on baby carriages up there!

They don’t even sell cars up there with A/C!

A summer outfit up there is a sweat shirt and long pants!

You can snow ski in July in Canada!

Alright, alright, everybody calms down. I was born on october 16th and there has never ever been snow on my birthday. It will be cool in the city but because the track is by the St-Lawrence river, it will be cold in the grandstand. They’ll sell a lot of hot chocolates and coffees.

Check the pictures of Gilles Villeneuve and Carlos Reutemann with the winter coats and tuques on the podium in 1978. Funny.
