Michel, some good reading here about 308 headlight options.

It discusses problems with HID and halogen bulbs as it relates to the 7” housing application.

I have had good (for the time) results with the Sylvania Silver Star Ultra models but there are other H4 style options.

The thread is old and I didn’t make it to the more recent threads to see if the modern LED technology (post 2019) is mentioned....

Clyde is right, the modern LEDs come in spot or flood projection.

Also, the lens reflector tech has improved a lot in recent years.

The offroad market really exploded with LED technology about 8 yrs ago. Rigid was one of the early and popular producers.

Talk about instant “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” illumination anywhere, anytime.

I did a back to back shootout of a 9007 housing with an OEM Phillips bulb, a modern halogen, a “super” halogen Sylvania Ultra, a high dollar HID conversion and a new Beamtech LED from Amazon.

This is for a tow vehicle which I use for cross country trips, often late at night out West at 75-85mph, so illumination is ideal.

The OEM bulb was downright dangerously dim.

Each of the successive bulbs were better with the HID and new Beamtech LED being the best.

The Beamtech bulb flooded a lot more and provided a wider field of view than any of the others.

The HID setup was a big improvement but very expensive and a bit of a mess to install.

At $39 and with simple screw in replacement for the stock bulbs, there was no comparison.

The modern LED bulb is one of the most effective mods I have done recently.

Michel, try an LED conversion. Much cheaper and easier than HID conversion.

There should be a model that will plug right into your existing connectors.

This is one of the truly great innovations for classic cars in the last few years.

One of the options in this link may work-

I decided to check my head lights while being stopped behind a car (by watching the reflection on the rear bumper) and noticed the right one didn’t work. Once back home, I undid both and switched them. The right one worked when put on the left side and the left one (good one) didn’t work when put on the right side.
I really didn’t have time to check relays and fuses. That will be done tomorrow.

But, since both are off, I thought I just as well should upgrade them. I’ve had the car for 19 years and never had to touch the head lights. What do you think is the right headlights to choose ?
