Yep, it caused an actual investigation on an organizational culture where there was a huge lack of communication between management and the engineers.
The glass roof has struts which fail and cause it to crash down It’s a nightmare I will bet you it leaks as well! If I owned one I would fabricate the top out of carbon fiber It would be light and would not put so much stress on the lifting mechanisms which is belt driven no less, what could wrong there ! Everything, belt slips, twist glass top, it cracks, yep it has happened already There is a whole thread on Ferrari chat on this space shuttle challenger car And we all know what happened to the space shuttle challenger!

Makes sense. I didn’t realize that glass window would be quite heavy and certainly would be awkward to move into position.
Isn’t the 355 roof frame and canvas top the same as a 348? I was under the impression they were, but modified to be powered in the 355 application.
When my friend has his 348 Spider, the first ride I had in it, I helped him lower the roof before we set off. I found it rather easy to do. Maybe not as light and easy as a Miata, but not complex or stiff.

Based on the number and depth of threads on FChat about converting the F355 spider roof to a manual (which it should have been from the start), I’m guessing the 575 probably isn’t a candidate.
Glass is dramatically heavier than canvas and that roof has to be lifted from flat to full vertical, rolled over the roll hoop support, and then laid back down flat 180 degrees over above the trunk.
That sounds like a recipe for disaster. And since the glass itself is well into 5 figures to replace, you certainly wouldn’t want to lose grip in that process…
At least Boeing is trying to fix the plane.
