I had a E36M3 four door as a daily driver. It isn’t a big car.  Plenty of spares and wrecked ones for donor parts available.

Now, it was boring when my only two cars were it and the 365 GT4. Probably the same reason I didn’t much like my 964C4 either...

Cody, you are right on the money.

The E36 M3 is a great and very inexpensive way to go quick.

Your car sounds very well setup.

The maintenance expense has gone down dramatically with the proliferation of quality online parts sources like FCP Euro and ECS tuning.

Parts are very reasonable...

As a small point of perspective. I have a deciated US model ’97 E36 M3 as my track car, I‘ve owned to for 10 years and of the 25,000 miles I’ve put on ti since I bought it 90% have been on the track. I added Motion Control coil overs w/ adjustable struts, Sparco seats, an Autopower bolt in half cage, Schroth harnesses, and polyurethane bushings all round. Other than that the engine and transmission are stock. The car is still street legal but will rattle your teeth as the suspension and bushings come into play and would not be suited as a daily or for long trips by any stretch. 

All that being said I have roughly $18-20k in the car excluding gas tires, wheels, and oil as they say. It is a very good track car and feels like a go-kart more than anything else. It does lack top end speed down the straights but in the twisty's it feel like it's on rails and overall is a dream to drive. I’m not being recruited by anyone nor do I considered myself that good of a driver, but it does check the boxes for fun. 

I am selling it (this is not a sales pitch, but… ? ) as I’m moving to a 2012 E90 335is. This is a very tough decision but my youngest daughter (21) has taken a keen interest in track driving with me. Since she rarely drives a manual, and to keep her interested the 335 offers a great automatic/manual paddles option that will allow her to focus on driving and not managing three pedals. I’m a three pedal guy but this will be a nice compromise as it makes way more power than my M3 and makes me very happy to see her so excited about the sport. I’ll eventually do the same mods to it but no more.

This is a very long winded way of agreeing with Lash about the E36 M3s. It’s also easy and relatively inexpensive to add more power to the platform. I could also loose a few hundred pounds of weight to gain more speed, as it is mine still has the stock interior sans the seats and spare in the trunk to improve it’s performance LOL.

Right now I would like to go for fun, but I am pretty competitive......since this is my first foray into a dedicated track experience I don't want to put a lot of money into it until I see what kind of results I can get, that's the under $50K vehicles are fairly attractive
