Sounds like a leak in the Head Gasket!! Very nice
looking though.

We are pleased to offer 1975
Ferrari 308 GT4 s/n 09978 GT, an amazingly well
documented, fastidiously maintained US model 308
GT/4, from new in Fly Yellow with a black Boxer
Bottom, black leather seats and black carpets.
308 GT4 s/n 09978 GT is complete and documented
back to the original Warranty Card showing
delivery to the Ferrari importer,
Chinetti-Garthwaite Imports, and then to Wide
World of Cars, the selling dealer, in Nanuet, NY
and the subsequent sale on 21 Nov., 1975 to the
first owner, Syd Silverman, White Plains, NY.
The Warranty card shows all dealer service
stamps up to March, 1988 when 308 GT4 s/n 09978
GT was sold to the second owner, William E.
Spitz. In 2007 s/n 09978 was sold to the third
owner, Brady S. Sadek, who started a two year
restoration on what was then a thirty-two year
old Ferrari, with mechanical work by Continental
Motors, the Ferrari dealer for Chicago, and body
and paint by Skip McCabe restorations in
Mundelein, Illinois. The total restoration cost
in 2007-2008 was $86,81.56.
In late 2010
308 GT/4 s/n 09978 was sold to its fourth owner,
Rod Susman in Rancho Santa Fe and then in 2011
to the fifth owner, Skeets Dunn, who had the
paintwork redone, located the period correct
7-1/2” wide wheels and fitted a set of correct
Michelin XWX 205-70-14 tires with the period
correct chromed lug nuts. The window rubber and
felt seals were replaced, a Tubi exhaust was
installed and the front and rear vent louvers
were correctly anodized. All work was done by
Symbolic Service, the total invoice was
$42,901.54. On 06 June of 2017 Ferraris Online
sold 308 GT/4 s/n 09978 GT to the current owner.
The current owner then had 308 GT/4 s/n 09978
serviced by Dugan Enterprises in Oceanside, CA
including a cam-belt and tensioner replacement,
new cam seals, new spark plugs, new oil and
filters and a brake fluid flush. The cam covers,
the timing belt covers and water pump were
refinished. The main coolant tubes were
replaced. The A/C was serviced with a new dryer;
two new engine mounts were installed; new shift
seals were installed; the carbs were overhauled
and four new Michelin XWX 205-70-14 tires were
installed. The total invoice was $16,641.90. We
have copies of all major invoices and work
orders back to 2007 on file, e-mail us for
copies.
Unlike previous Pininfarina
designs, the Bertone design was penned by
Marcello Gandini and personally guided by Enzo
Ferrari himself, giving an innovative, linear
and angular style, challenging the former
rounded architecture of the previous decades.
The 308 GT/4 featured a sizable trunk, room
behind the front seats for luggage or small
passengers, and reasonable access to the
transverse mounted dual overhead cam V8 engine,
a first for Ferrari. The seating position was
pushed forward, creating fantastic visibility,
excellent balance and go-kart like handling. The
5-speed synchromesh transaxle allowed for smooth
shifts, bringing all of 240hp (in US trim) to
the rear wheels, returning excellent performance
for the period. In 1977, Ferrari dropped the
Dino name entirely, branding all subsequent GT4
models as Ferraris.
Today, this
meticulously maintained and matching numbers
Ferrari GT4 presents in remarkably nice
condition and has covered only 47,658 miles, or
just over 1,000 mile per year, on average. The
exterior paint is chip free, scratch free and
dent free, in show quality condition, with
excellent panel fit on the headlight doors and
the hood. The doors and deck lids are also
nicely fitting to the body with excellent panel
fit. The front and rear bumpers are in excellent
shape and are very nicely aligned to the body.
All window glass seems to be original to the
car. The lighting and plastic lenses are also in
very good condition. A Ferrari hood and wheel
emblems have been added, but the Dino 308 GT/4
script remains on the rear of the car. The
unattractive front and rear US side market
lights have been removed and the much more
attractive European style front side market
lights have been added. The stainless steel
front windshield trim, the door opening
"greenhouse" trim and door window trim are all
in excellent condition and show "as-new". The
wheels are nicely refinished and show as
new.
The interior is in truly exceptional
condition for a forty-five year old Ferrari with
soft and supple leather on the seats and door
panels, a blemish free dash, an unmarked
headliner and matching yellow-trimmed throw
carpets, with Dino 308 GT/4 logos, protect the
original black carpets. The front spare tire
compartment is nicely restored. The trunk
retains its original carpet which shows light
wear. The switchgear, the original Blaupunkt
Continental radio and A/C controls are present
and in good condition, nestled inside the center
console. Under the hood, the car presents a very
clean numbers-matching engine and an outstanding
compartment, featuring original components and
finishes, showcasing the attention to detail.
The engine still carries the original air
injection pipes, both smog pumps, the charcoal
canister, the diverter valve and hoses. The
underside of the car is exceptionally clean and
very nicely detailed, with some very minimal
under-valance scuffing, reflective of the
obsessive decades of maintenance records and
decades in a dry California climate.
308
GT/4 s/n 9978 starts easily, warm or cold, and
settles into a smooth idle. Throttle response is
excellent and the Tubi exhaust system makes all
the right sounds. Driving this GT4, the clutch
takes up easily and the gearbox shifts smoothly
and has a nice tight linkage. The transaxle goes
into second gear smoothly, even when cold. On
the road and at speed, the driver position and
forward stance makes for a light, user-friendly
Ferrari with go-kart like handling. Needless to
say 308 GT/4 s/n 09978 is complete with the full
set of original books, including the ultra-rare
Warranty Card and book, the Owner's Handbook,
the Dealer Network book, the Consumer Affairs
brochure, the ultra-rare wiping rag in its AGIP
plastic bag, the leather carrying pouch, the
full tool set with all it's original tools, the
jack, the jack wrench, the tire iron, the lug
wrench, four spare accessory belts and the spare
light bulbs and fuses. Also comes a loose leaf
binder with the service invoices. We have a copy
of decades of service invoices on file, e-mail
us for a copies. Priced to sell at $89,500 or
best
offer. | | | | |
