We toyed with the idea of a “break room” for a bit. Place where you could go and shatter a stack of glasses or a TV set.
Insurance was not the killer. In the end, while it seemed “fun” the likelihood of multiple visits was slim.
One opened up in Lakeland (about halfway between St. Pete and Orlando) it was killed by Covid - but was probably struggling before then. Fun in concept, but once you smashed a TV once ...
FWIW, waiver is just a piece of paper. Not going to stop the inevitable lawsuit. In Florida we actually have a statute that protects horse trainers and barn owners. Believe me, it doesn’t even slow the Personal Injury Attorneys down. Have
to hire counsel and defend until you get the dismissals, it still costs several thousand dollars. That is a killer for most barn owners.
You should see the reaction when our barn users see my paperwork. Most barns’ agreements may as well be written on toilet paper, in crayon. Ours runs 9 pages. Still, when a woman hurt herself - by being incredibly stupid - she had an attorney
call.
Now that I’m not one, maybe Shakespeare was right about all the lawyers.
