I sent a reply to this with a photo attached, but it may have not worked as it was a fairly large file size. No photo attached to this one...

Michael’s antenna motor looks just like the one in my GT4, so I would not be surprised if it operates the same.

The whole assembly case is the ground, the wires are two positive leads – when 12V + is sent through one wire, it passes through one of the brushes connected to the armature, making the armature spin in a corresponding direction. Flip power through the other wire and it goes in the opposite direction.

Travel limiting is done by a simple dog slip clutch – the motor will keep spinning, but the spring-loaded clutch will allow it to slip, making a “thud-thud-thud-thud” sound. The clutch is contained in a drum where the antenna guide wire (in this case, made out of plastic) spools around it.

Easy to test. not easy to find the fault. connect the ground to the neg pole of the battery and one the leads pos pole of battery it should extend or retract.

I have not used my radio in so long I can't remember on the antenna switch which way I move it for up or down.

I am trying to fix it this winter.

I took my antenna out today. This is what it looks like. I’m not very confident about taking it apart to see what the problem is. Maybe it was just the ground wire. That thing was rusted like crazy. I can’t test it because the battery is disconnected for the winter. I think I’ll just give it to my mechanic and see what he says.
