Here are a couple of pictures of the gt4 with the upgraded wheels and brakes. I hope these photos send ok.
Apologies – the rims are dirty!!! Shock, Horror!!! The rims are pseudo-Challenge style, 18” x 8” and are made in the UK and branded Dynamics. I’m running 245 x 40 rubber so the rolling diameter is more or less the same as original. Front brakes are 320mm diameter x 32 mm, 2-piece, floating, ventilated, cross-cut discs with Brembo 4-pot calipers from a Ferrari 360. We made up custom billet aluminium bells and mounts and anodised those. Rear brakes are still the standard 271mm x 22mm ventilated discs with the ATE calipers, but I have more aggressive pads in the rear than standard to balance the much better braking at the front! Off-hand, I can’t remember the exact spring rates, but will let you know if I find the paperwork. The shocks are the standard Konis but refreshed and revalved to be stiffer in both impact and rebound. I have some other photos (somewhere) that show the brake setup better – I will post when I find them.
Cheers, Grahame

Robert Garvin would probably be horrified, but I have 18”x 8” wheels all round on my gt4 certainly not original but this means I can fit more modern rubber and I also have been able to fit much bigger brakes. I have not changed the ride height but have increased the spring stiffness by about 20% or so, and similarly, the shock absorbers are about 20% stiffer in terms of impact and rebound. I was worried that the combination of lower profile rubber and stiffened suspension would make it a nightmare on rough roads but overall it feels great on the road and a lot of the roads we drive tend to be of rather poor surface.

My plan was to run the GT4 in the novice group at the Annual. I can write off 2021, but things should be a go-ahead after that.
Much like how Erik pointed out in the recent 348 email chain, my cars are strictly street driven (and the streets around these parts aren’t exactly in the best shape. With compliant spring rates and balloon tires, the GT4 is WAY more enjoyable to drive).

It would be fun to compare a GT4 with a GTB/S back to back.
Maybe next year at Tremblant for the FCA Annual??
Stock GTB/S spring rates are really soft which gives them the great ride. And, as you point out, the bigger sidewall on the smaller wheels does a lot too.

Ha ha, haven’t been there yet (because of stupid COVID)!
I haven’t driven a 308 GTB/S yet, but riding in one, it did feel more compact. I have hustled my car through some curves at speeds WAY beyond my comfort level and was amazed at how planted the car was. I am more amazed that despite that feeling of being glued to the road, the suspension is really comfy (plus the 14” tires help).
I’m really itching to get a 328 and am debating if I should spring for the later ABS car. I’ve read that there is a big difference between those two (non-ABS vs ABS) and it’d be interesting to see how it would be, up against the GT4.

Yes, where are Peter’s track data downloads from St. Jovite??
