Thanks Scottie for that
People think I am hard for no reason
But you laid it out there correctly
The F-1 box is a no brainer in my opinion
For any Ferrari driver
To me it’s like the F-15 of systems
Anyone and I mean this anyone can be an ace in a F-15 it’s that easy to fly

I always liked the 5 speed 550.  To be fair the shifter was a huge improvement over the TR.  Clutch is NOTHING compared to a Countach.  Besides, with that torque, you can pretty much roll off in 2nd and stay there ALL DAY.

That being said, with you 100%.

The first time that they let us loose at Road Atlanta in the F1 360s, I was sold.  And in retrospect, that transmission SUCKS.  I remember coming into the Left / Right before the bridge and grabbing the two gear down shift in the middle of the left hander, completely clean.  Mind blown.  Easily found seconds a lap by taking it 25' than 50' deeper into the corners - because instead of “prepping for the corner" by downshifting and holding the clutch, I was downshifting AS I TURNED.

At the time, I thought that I was pretty clean with my downshifts, drove a 5 speed all day every day, but certainly did not have 100% confidence that I could pull off a 4 to 2 downshift, perfectly matching the revs, while navigating a 90 degree turn, every time.  I mean, I tried - all the time - but my success rate was way below 100%.  The F1 WAS 100% - was a huge confidence builder.

At the time, it made me a better driver - by allowing me to see what a car was capable of, if I raised my game.  For a time, I had way more “excursions” - trying to replicate by hand, what the car was managing with technology.  FWIW, I never got close to 100%.

The current dual clutch boxes are just amazing.  There is simply no unintended consequences to a shift.  Just a smooth, linear delivery of power.  I’ve never tracked a modern dual clutch, but imagine that the ability to cleanly downshift and accelerate mid corner has changed the game significantly.

BTW, cLyDe - my Civic haș paddles, even though it is a CVT and doesn’t even really shift!  But wait, its worse.  They program in FAKE shifts when you are in the regular auto mode.  {slaps forehead}

Peace,

scottie

Gary I don’t get that
When you look at slush box cars anywhere
The first thing that stands out is
Clutch replaced at...
What’s that tell you?
The guy didn’t know how to drive a car with a clutch
That’s it
I’ve owned Ferraris for years and never replaced a clutch
When I worked at a local independent shop a guy came in bought a 360 stick
I had to drive it because he didn’t know how too!
So why the premium for a car that you don’t know how to drive?
I own a 575 F-1 and I am never looking back
I always drive it the manual mode with the paddles and I never miss a shift!
Up or down and it’s easier on the drive train
And it’s faster
, you can’t shift that fast manually and you have all the rpm protections up and down!
I hate to say it but the average Ferrari driver doesn’t know how to shift a slush box!
I don’t know who said it
But there are Ferrari drivers and Ferrari owners!
And truer words were never spoken
And the 6 speed manual in the 550 sucks big time along with the Arnold Schwarzenegger clutch pedal!
But hey let them pay premium
These are they same guys who like radial engines on airplanes!

550s have been bringing very strong $$, compared the 575s, because a lot of people want manual
transmissions.

What's really cRaZy are the F430 manuals.  They are about a $100K premium over an F1 trans car.
