They are Posers
They just want to show everyone there they can by expensive cars

Exactly Brian!

Why aren’t the guys who care about racing and track use them buying newer Ferrari anymore?

Why are FCA track events filled with people who trailer their 512BB to display in the paddock and then take their Viper on course?

The people that buy them new may sell and get a Mclaren or the very good Huracan next.

So many new options to attract new buyers depending on what your desires are.

Yes most of the guys who like F1 & Ferrari Challenge races, and who care about the history and story of Ferrari aren't the guys buying them new (for the most part).

You nailed it

And dig this the vast majority of Ferrari owners have never even been to a race any race to actually see a Ferrari race!
Yet the own a car who’s heritage is tied to racing
Go figure

I think it comes down to more than what else performs as well on a track though.  If we are talking about new cars only (not the vast used market) then you are in a rarefied group of people who can spend $245,000 base MSRP for an "entry level" model - currently the Ferrari Portofino.  Yes a C8 Corvette will outperform it in every category for $80,000 new, doesn't' have insurance maintenance costs, cheap to insure, easy to drive to dinner or to run errands and not worry about parking it etc., BUT it's got the Corvette "stigma," the build quality and material quality is not on the same level, etc.  Ford Mustang GT500's have killer performance for $85,000, but they are Fords and they have cheap plastic-ky interiors still in 2021.  There are quite a few trucks out there for $90-100,000 (Ford F250/350/450 Platinum and the GM counterparts, Ford Raptors, RAM TRX etc).  But your truck, GT500, Corvette buyer isn't going to be looking at one of those or a new (or even used) Ferrari.  Same with SUV's, is a Lamborghini Urus at $218,000 base MSRP a better off road, more comfortable, better performing SUV than a $150,000 Mercedes G550 or a $100,000 full sized Range Rover?  No.  BUT it's a Lamborghini.  And you'll see a whole lot less Urus on the road and in valet than any of the others.  And to some in that price range that's what matters.  For the same amount of money ($15,000 - $30,000) you can buy a W221 Mercedes S550 or a Maserati ... the S550 is a far superior car in pretty much every way, BUT you see a lot of them on the road and they don't have that "Maserati" name / brand recognition and look.  The Ferrari V8 does sound pretty good in the Maserati though and they do have pretty interiors.  People do tend to be afraid of the maintenance costs though.  But there isn't a much better deal on the market, as far as depreciation and what you get for your money, as a lightly used Maserati or Aston Martin.

But I don't think performance is as much of a motivating factor in high end cars as it used to be.  Used you get into a different conversation, as there are a LOT of choices out there for $50-60K.

I think Deep is on to something. There are a lot of high performance cars available and not all of them are exotics like Ferrari.

While Ferrari’s road cars performance is higher than most others, many other brands offer performance that far exceeds what can be used in public roads.  Do many enthusiasts really appreciate and value the performance difference of Ferrari when others may be relatively lower but are still a multiple of what can be used safely on the road?

So far the stock price hasn’t suffered at all but for how long?
