As far as I can remember, Ferrarichat started up (by Rob Lay) through the Expensivecar.com bulletin board.

I got my 308 in July 2000 and shortly afterwards, I was visiting that site. Rob made an announcement there that he’d be launching his own and that was around November 2000. I created an official account in December.

I subscribed to the Ferrarilist around that time too and I remember the huge volume of emails coming in on a daily basis. It was Dave Handa of Seattle who suggested this place to me. Somehow, I think around 2002, my subscription got cancelled (I think during a server move), but I didn’t have an issue with that as that volume was a bit overwhelming. I rejoined a couple of years later and have stayed since.

There have been a number of forum-type venues come and go over the years dedicated to Ferrari. I view this place much like in the same manner as our informal, defunct Italian car club here in Vancouver, where we would still get together at the Italian Cultural Center once a month, drink beer, eat Panini sandwiches and shoot the shit about anything and everything (sigh... The biggest thing I miss during this COVID crap).

AJ – tut tut

Chatted up NOT in a negative way Bro.  Just as a milestone.  Just as “Rickie” who was building his Mondial from multiple cars (?) with his, uh, dad, but could never answer the simplest question.

In those days – you’ll recall there were maybe only TWO major car email accounts: The Ferrari List for, well, the Ferrari crowd; and, RennList for the Porsche crowd.

In those very unsophisticated system days contributors were always apologizing for “using up band width.”  No pictures were allowed and a host of other choke points.

Clyde – was famous for his random signature (cLYdE; ClYDe; clyDE; and so forth and his ‘hard returns’ to the next line.  Ferrari Willi who became Ferrari Bubba when he moved to Arkansas with his 208gt4 (yes – Two oh eight) that had belonged to an air force fellow stationed in Europe and he brought it home with him only to end up in Bill Hilser’s garage.  I drove it to meet with Brian Keagan lo those many years ago and was quite impressed with the power – it simply ran out of legs about 90 or so but what the heck – That’s enough to get a ticket.

Those lists matriculated into the VERY sophisticated Ferrari Chat site and a very updated RennList. For the Porsche folks.  Run by a fellow back in VT.  Nice guy.  Ah hah – Jens.

Today – the standard email carries still carries the ragged long in the tooth Ferrari and Porsche folks – but I don’t receive 100 messages a day as it was 25 years ago which now go to a number of VERY sophisticated sites.

So nothing personal AJ – I still recall when you drove a new dealership truck over to my house that you had convinced them you’ll do a report on it.  You drove my 308 GTS and we ate at some hamburger stand in Thousand Oaks.  Those were the days.

Anyway my friend – stay safe – glad you’re home from your overseas duties.

Cheers

Doug

That’s because EVERYONE who paid for stickers got them, as well as a number of extras I gave away free. Can’t believe we’re still talking about this bullshit 25 years later.

Anthony, Bite me.

Sometimes the list just slows down...  ebb and flow.  Always has.

Had better things to deal with this week than your need to wax your tool.

Want to know what one of our group is all about?

This is MY friend and friend to many here.  This is a Ferrari guy through and through.

This is someone who has been on the list since there was a list.   He was here when I started 20 years ago.

This is a true American hero.  (he'll shun that statement, but it's not his call)

This is what has been going on this week, for me.

You will get better response if you drop the snarky.

We might even get to like you...  and that would be good.

I guess all of the pilot stories have been told.

I am working on a non-functional side mirror at the moment.

When all the electrical stuff is sorted I will move on to detailing.  Any suggestions?

Washing tips?  I have never had a car with single stage paint before.  And it is getting thin in places.

Suggested ceramic coating?

Suggested wax?

Leather cleaner and conditioner?

Wheel cleaner?

Polish for exhaust tips?
