You’d be surprised at how well these kids did, especially the girls. The boys were the ones who stalled the car (like you said, let off the clutch too quickly).

All of the kids that drove my car did say the clutch was slightly heavy, but no where near as heavy as the ‘80s 911 at that event.

Stick newbies and high performance cars.....

I was teaching my daughter how to drive a manual.  At the time, I was
in the car business, and usually would grab something off the used car
lot to drive home.  One Saturday night, I chose a Z28 Camaro.

Sunday afternoon:  The streets in our little town are deserted on
Sundays.  I took my daughter to a nice level spot on an empty downtown
street.  It was the usual "a little bit of gas, sloooowly let out
clutch, etc."  But it seems many beginners will tend to quickly
release the clutch when they feel it just starting to grab.  So
repeated attempts resulted in stalling the engine.  I then suggested
using a touch more gas as it starts to get going.  This is where it
went wrong....

She was doing well right up to the point where it was just starting to
grab.  Then right foot to the floor, clutch pedal fully released.  We
did at least one full donut in the middle of the street with me
yelling "Clutch! Clutch!".  I took over the driver's seat thinking
about plan B.

Back to the car lot.  Found a 3 cyl Geo Metro.  And she quickly
learned how to drive it.

Hans.
