I knew you'd circle this back to Grumman.

Been there, done that, opted for the PhD instead of the T-shirt. Still in the camp that thinks string theory has some sloppy math behind it and have said as much to two Nobel laureates.  I think the time Nassim Taleb and I were arguing about non-linearity and partial differential equations and he called me an asshole was more memorable.  But I digress.

Waiting for JWST to launch and start looking at the data to see what concepts were right and which ones we need to throw out and start over on.

What dies?  What lives?  What does it mean to "live"?  What if everything you think you know, you know because it was necessary to know that for humanity to exist at all?

If you want to understand the universe and humanity you need to go well beyond Thermo.  You need to study what is known about Electrodynamics, Special Relativity, General Relativity and Quantum Physics.

Everyone dies.

But not everyone lives.

Well, since you guys have it all figured out, why don't you tell me what the results of those studies were why those results were what they were.  I feel like you guys are trying to be the Will Hunting of pilots.  That may, indeed, be the case.

Just so you boys know, no one survives.  And there is only one debrief that matters.  Between now and then you have two choices.  Choose wisely for it will determine how that debrief goes.

That’s where you are wrong…. *I* have not seen Facebook.  Nor do I care to.

Oh, we’ve been studied, but those who exist on “feelings” don’t like the data.  Nor do they understand it.

How do you know they are happy?  Is anyone ever honest about their feelings?  Especially macho guys whose whole identity hinges on their supposed strength?  You have seen facebook.  Everyone is projecting a lie.

There have been countless studies that show optimists are happier than pessimists   You know who is even more happy than an optimist?  The person who has learned to not give a shit at all.  They don't try to predict the future.  They have let go.  They live in the present.  They are exceedingly rare.  That is why no one studies them.  Sample size is too small.  I mean really, really small.

And never confuse a skeptic with a cynic.  A skeptic believes nothing until he is shown the data.  A cynic assumes the worst even if he doesn't have the data to back it up.  Skeptics are the critical thinkers.  Cynics are miserable people who live in fear of being wrong.  Optimists are just the opposite of Cynics.  The believe only good will happen, even without data.  Cynics call optimists fools and they are occasionally proven correct.  Thing is, cynics are fools too.

Depends completely on your vantage point… most pessimists I know are quite happy because the are generally right.  People love to view other’s foibles from their reality.

I take a dash of pessimism and a spoon of cynicism….  And end up at skeptical empiricist.

And that is why pessimists are pessimists.  They fear being wrong.  Great for survival but it rarely leads to inner peace.

Add testing and the lawyers looking at it plus indemnification, and you’re probably in the low $400s…

This is quite common. Not just with Ferraris.

You would think by now that they’d come up with a way to solidly secure the car frame to the lift arm to prevent these from flipping. Even a pair of short 2” wide nylon straps to wrap around both arms and clip onto built in tabs on the chassis at the front would solve this. That would cost the company what, maybe $5 to $10 per car to implement?
