Trust me, I’ve seen it unfold before my eyes. One instance in particular, there is a chain of auto repair supply stores here in Western Canada and they have a fleet of crappy economy cars they use as parts runners (I don’t know the model, but those Hyundai two door hatchbacks that retailed for four figures brand new). Usually driven by the staff, that are, how should I put this in polite company?... The very bottom of the employee chain-of-command.

There was one in front of me going along the highway to the airport. I know well enough to stay far back from those who I can judge to be shit drivers. We were in the fast lane and the car was swerving side to side and I could see the driver was looking down at the console, not straight ahead (looking at their cell phone). The car swerved so far to the left that the front left wheel caught the bottom slope of the Jersey barrier and within less than a second, whoop, it’s up on two wheels! Just like in those stunt drives. He jerks the wheel to the right and wham! Back on four wheels, some more corrective swerving and he finally settles down. Meantime I’m so far behind this guy to give as much room as possible to avoid the potential crash I envision. He signals to get off at the next exit and I am 100% positive it was to find a gas station so he could remove his underwear. I have no doubt about that. He was lucky that day.

I have a small car crash video obsession.  Having watched hundreds of not thousands of crashes, you’d be surprised how little of a hit it takes to roll a car sometimes.  Particularly SUVs - with their higher center of gravity.

Less collateral damage on the ground?

Really you could say the same thing for airbags, ABS brakes, traction control and roll-over reinforcement. Everyday when I watch the local news, they always show the daily traffic snarls and I see at an alarming rate cars on their roofs. On a straight piece of road. Erik wonders HTF a guy misses a green airplane, I wonder how a person puts a car on their roof?

With this new era of GA aircraft with WARPS (parachute) on small aircraft, those who do stupid stuff in the air are getting a second chance.   I'm on the fence about it being a good thing....

Two small airplanes collided in midair near Denver yesterday, leaving this aircraft nearly ripped in half — and forcing the pilot of the other to deploy a parachute attached to the plane to land safely, AP reports.

·         Remarkably, no one was injured.

The pilot was the only person aboard this twin-engine Fairchild Metroliner that landed despite major damage.

·         The plane is owned by Colorado-based Key Lime Air, which operates cargo aircraft.

A pilot and one passenger were on the other plane — a Cirrus SR22 single-engine plane that unleashed a red-and-white parachute to float to a safe landing in a field near homes.
