233 mile 328 GTS – Hmmm

Many years ago Ferrari Willie took me to a great air museum – Tallmantz Aviation Air Museum or something like that.  Located at the Orange County, CA, airport.  Since burned and replaced by Lyon Air Museum.

The Tallmantz museum was put together by aviation stunt piolets Paul Mantz and Frank Tallman.  This was a collection of pre and during WW I, WW II, Hollywood, and Korean War aircraft along with experimental weird and huge stuff such as a couple of film camera P-38’s, B-25’s and B-50 fuselage on truck beds used for supermarket and county fair openings.

OK – thing is – the curator points at the WW I stuff and said something like “those we can still fly” and pointing at the WW II and Korean War planes – “those . . . will never fly again.”  Why?  “hydraulics, fuel and electrical corrosion problems.”  Oh.

I guess cars are somewhat the same unless they’re cared for like a museum piece.  Like the Nethercutt Museum in Sylmar, CA.  Free.  Where multimillion dollar cars are taken out on a picnic (pre-covid) yearly and the people period dress.

But the good thing about Mr. 233 - - - - it could certainly be used as a concours/restoration reference point.  Never mind a goodly number of the parts are no longer available. (sigh)  Unless you know Brian Keegan.

Onward

I had a good laugh this afternoon.

I got this month’s BaT market review for the past month and one of the highlighted sales was the virgin garage-queen 233 mile 328 GTS:

Funny, but I put more than 233 miles on my Mondial in the first two weeks of ownership than the previous owners did with that 328 over the past 32 years. I know I’ve been having a lot of fun with mine!
