It's not that the cars are worth more, QE infinity has made the dollar worth less.  

We're fast approaching hamburgers costing $50 each if you go out, and I'm not talking going to 21 Club in NYC (RIP)...

So let me see if I got this right

Someone paid let’s say $150 in 1989 most likely way more back then 

Insured it for what 32 years let say for $1500/year=$48k

Maintenace from what I’ve read I figured at least $20k 

So that totals to $218k

And it has 3800 miles 

How much per mile is that?

These poor soles who think that there TR is going to bring them gold

All it’s bringing them is Lead!
