Was that guy doing timing belts every single year? No way was he paying $20K/year in service...

 

I mentioned this story here before. A fellow club member bought his TR new in Toronto and brought it with him when he moved here to Vancouver. He had a belt job done before he got rid of the car and he paid $18K Canadian for that. I don’t remember when this was, but figure whatever exchange rate you want, that amount in USD is far lower than your quote.

 

He and most other TR owners are doing quite well today (despite going through the depreciation motions with every toy they bought). He currently has a Ford GT and I would not be surprised if it’s the highest mileage example out there. By far, it’s been his most favorite car. He bought that new and as the only exception, I’d bet he’d make money on it if he were to sell it today.

So let me see if I got this right

Someone paid let’s say $150 in 1989 most likely way more back then 

Insured it for what 32 years let say for $1500/year=$48k

Maintenace from what I’ve read I figured at least $20k 

So that totals to $218k

And it has 3800 miles 

How much per mile is that?

These poor soles who think that there TR is going to bring them gold

All it’s bringing them is Lead!
