Peter,

You can certainly try and do the belt change without dropping the subframe. I’d
suggest it’s not worth the purported savings of not having to, as you’ll end up
spending more time working around the problem. In addition, with the subframe
out you can easily access all areas of the engine and transmission and perform,
for example, a proper valve adjustments often needed with the belt. You’ll
often find many other items to be repaired or replaced at the same time.

Just a precautionary note from a former Mondial T Coupe owner and the current
owner of its sister engine car, a 348tb.

Best,
Cody

Not entirely.

It helps for gaining access to the cooling system hoses and also the tops of
the timing belt covers, but you can?t do the whole job through there.

You can do it from underneath if you remove the gas tank. There?s this video by
Ratarossa on YouTube using a 355 as an example, but the same process applies to
the Mondial: www.youtube.com - DIY timing belt
job<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gSb-aiuIsE> There?s a detailed thread on
F?Chat specifically for the T. Totally do-able at home.

It was the deciding factor for me getting the car. I was always under the
impression you had to drop the whole subframe out of the car, but you don?t.
The less systems you have to disturb (electrical, brake, clutch, A/C, etc), the
better.
