Really, a gas-powered Smart car? I had one for a 24 hour test drive (as my ex-diesel one was in for a service). I thought my diesel was bad, the gas-powered one was the worst piece of shit I have ever driven. Couldn’t get out of it’s own way and the paddle shifting was even slower than the diesel’s transmission. I couldn’t wait to give the keys back. At least with the diesel, when you’d eventually get it in the meat of it’s torque curve, it was quite peppy, but with the narrow track, short wheelbase, massive understeer and an especially high CoG, it was very... tippy.

I only wish we got the gas-powered Smart Roadsters. Now those I’ve heard/read were decent handling cars. They still featured the same crappy transmissions so it would be a great candidate for a bike-engine swap.

Just saw the thread on the 488 trying to navigate The Dragon inverted
(Clyde) . The Dragon is about an hour from my house and is a handful of fun,
but it can be dangerous. It got very popular in the past few years and every
turn is an adventure to see which lane the oncoming traffic is in. In the
past few years it has been very heavily patrolled, making is more safe and
less fun. There used to be a number of photographers camped out along the
side, taking photos for sale. I have a few. One of the most interesting
drives through was in my wife's SMART. It was a real exercise in energy
management (late braking and early back on the throttle) because I would
romp the throttle and the car would say "do you mean me?"
