Yes I understand people can pay what they want for anything but we are here to share opinions and I agree with Clyde, what was sold was stupidity. Not my money, no skin off my nose but still that was just stupid!

When I got my 328 in 2000 it was 14 years old. I thought it was great. After a year or two I learned it was good but not great. Most people don’t actually know what a great car is. I learned in the U.K. from very good friends and sources and then I learned how to do the work myself to make a car great.

Clyde’s ex 512tr ( now in my garage ) looks as good or better than the pictures I saw of that 328. 111,000k miles on it.
There was rust or corrosion on the air box. A comment about some sort of oil plug that was replaced and was “unobtainable “. I mean at 6k miles why would a plug be damaged and worn out? Dirt and rust on the chassi and suspension.

And this one owner thing is a  really really big deal in the U.K.  as well. One owner cars, big money. You know what I learned from personal experience? Most 1 owner cars are bags of shite. After owning a car for a very long time the owners let them go to crap, they don’t put the money into them and they don’t value the car so much. You don’t put the love into taking care of the car when you have had it so long. I have seen this over and over.
Yes tons of owners can be an issue but generally on such an old car changing hands every 6 years or so is good. The new owner puts a ton of money into the car when they get it and it gets “revived”.
Paying so much for that car which wasn’t good looking at all ( I saw about 30k of work to make it look like a real 6k mile car) doesn’t make you smart or special. It just makes you stupid.
But hey, not  my money.
Yesterday I was approached by a guy in Sweden with a 328 with 459 miles on it. Cars in the U.K.. it’s been for sale for years o n and off. In 2000 they were asking 100k pounds for it. ( good 328s back then, the concours winners were 32k. ) It’s never been driven. Still has the plastics on the seats. Asking price today? 160k Euros.
For somebody with tons of cash, it will sell. But I don’t respect or look up to those people. They are just stupid. And yes they are free to be stupid and to act stupid and to say stupid things.
But then we are free to comment on it also.

By the way Clyde, I couldn’t help myself…The 512 is getting a serious interior and engine bay refresh this winter….Brian K and I are on very good terms as he is slowly burning through my credit card! Yes I know, that makes me stupid too! :)

Hmmm.

Some banter about windshield possibly replaced?  I didn’t plow through all the comments but I did notice the emissions sticker was missing.  Worthy of a question . . . why?  In favor of the windshield is original is the goo and the every so tricky black surround.  The top and bottom come from the factory about a inch longer than needed and are square cut.  Therefore they have to be angle matched at time of placement.  A real joy.  So the joints on this car look decent.  But Sigla?  If that’s correct then I’ve learned something.

Anyway, $150,000k today is yesterdays, well, 1985’s $60,000 or so.  If there is no rust – great car to serve as a master reference.  So few out there.  Mine sure ain’t.  But I strive.  I found a key for the door pouch’s. I feel so much more secure . . .

Cheers

Doug

What sold the car was single-ownership history. It doesn’t matter if he bagged it during it’s life, but the fact it can go back to day-one with the same person is what brought the bucks. That’s hard to replicate. A lot of 328s out there had multiple owners through their lives and each one rode it hard, put it away wet, and when they got bored, they’re sold it off for the next toy (or divorce pay-out).

When I first saw this listing, I immediately thought, okay the guy who bought it was probably in his 40’s/50’s back then. Loved it to bits, probably because he watched Magnum PI. Fast forward to today and now that guy is pushing his 70’s/80’s and can probably no longer get into the thing and it’s just sitting there in the garage. You gotta start making plans and actions to unload assets before the inevitable happens. I’m not really surprised at this result to be honest (despite vehicle condition).

I think we’re going to see more of this in the Springtime. Whatever wave of COVID will subside, the weather will get better and people will be tripping over themselves to get their bucket-list Ferrari. Modern classics are strong right now.

I’m just glad I bought my Mondial when I did. Winner winner, chicken dinner.

Thats not a nice clean car. The underside is horrendous. That car wouldn’t get 6th place in a U.K. FOC concours. What kind of moron would spend so much on such a dirty machine. Jesus, I can’t see the mileage as correct unless it was parked in a lake. Clyde is right. Many many nicer cleaner 328s than that for much much less money here in Europe. Crust, mine had 80k miles on it and was in better condition.
