I was thinking the same thing. The undercarriage looked very nice.  What everyone is complaining about is cosmoline - factory original undercoating to protect the car from corrosion during overseas shipping. Porsche does the same thing and it looks yellow. But it’s original. Even if it were dirt who cares?  It cleans up with time and effort. It’s a driven 35+ year old car.  It’s going to have some minor class or dust on the suspension.

Okay, so this car sold for $150K.

Back in 1986, it stickered for $66K so that equals $167K in today’s money.

That original owner LOST roughly $17,000 in “value” over the course of 35 years. Around $500/year to play with a Ferrari is not too shabby. I’m intentionally not including insurance/gas/maintenance as you’ll pay that with any vehicle, more-or-less.

There’s just a few marks of road rash underneath and that’s it. That brown-ish color stuff is the undercoating they sprayed AT THE FACTORY and it’s still present and rather clean looking. Definitely worthy of 7000 miles. My Mondial had 19K and looked the same as this car.

Tell you what, when you take delivery of your 296 next year, keep it for 35 years and we’ll see how you do. I’ll be 81 then and God willing, still behind the wheel(s) - if the guv’mint will still allow me to drive my GT4, Mondial and whatever other Ferrari I’ll get.

What sold the car was single-ownership history. It doesn’t matter if he bagged it during it’s life, but the fact it can go back to day-one with the same person is what brought the bucks. That’s hard to replicate. A lot of 328s out there had multiple owners through their lives and each one rode it hard, put it away wet, and when they got bored, they’re sold it off for the next toy (or divorce pay-out).

When I first saw this listing, I immediately thought, okay the guy who bought it was probably in his 40’s/50’s back then. Loved it to bits, probably because he watched Magnum PI. Fast forward to today and now that guy is pushing his 70’s/80’s and can probably no longer get into the thing and it’s just sitting there in the garage. You gotta start making plans and actions to unload assets before the inevitable happens. I’m not really surprised at this result to be honest (despite vehicle condition).

I think we’re going to see more of this in the Springtime. Whatever wave of COVID will subside, the weather will get better and people will be tripping over themselves to get their bucket-list Ferrari. Modern classics are strong right now.

I’m just glad I bought my Mondial when I did. Winner winner, chicken dinner.

Thats not a nice clean car. The underside is horrendous. That car wouldn’t get 6th place in a U.K. FOC concours. What kind of moron would spend so much on such a dirty machine. Jesus, I can’t see the mileage as correct unless it was parked in a lake. Clyde is right. Many many nicer cleaner 328s than that for much much less money here in Europe. Crust, mine had 80k miles on it and was in better condition.
