A couple of times when I was a kid, I accidentally drag raced cops. I'm in a POS econo car that I souped up as best I could. On freeway, dark. Car coming from behind. Being competitive, I accelerate. Other car speeds up. Now I'm full on, redline shifts. Other car just keeps up. Then it turns on the reds and blues,  and shoots past.

I'm embarrassed....

Not really owning a mirror – just tack it on to your parking violation or 82 mph ticket.

But while there may be no mirror to use to do your license plate checks using their review mirror created a memorable moment for me.

OK, here I am doing 75, up north crossing the Valley of The Moon (really – that’s what its called and for good reason) at 8:00 in a winter night, raining, in my hot rod 66 VW with foggy interior windshield because rain water is kicking up into the heating ducts an blowing steam on my interior windshield.  That was when the national speed limit was 55 mph (88 kph), down from a paltry 65 mph (100 kph).

Now on this no traffic in either direction dark rainy night in nowhere I am coming up on a dark lump ahead when the lump hits his yellow flashing lights, then shuts them off.  SOB . . . I have just found a new 55 mph religion.  He went on and that was the end of it.  But I remember it to this day.

Does CA DMV own a mirror?

Honestly, do you think they check for "backward" stuff?

Forgot, there is a Black Tacoma in the valley that looks almost exactly like mine... plate is "3JOH22A"

Really surprised that one got past the DMV censors.

The plate was seen at the Long Beach Grand Prix this September on a yellow Carrera GT.

Looks like the registration expired in 2019!

Bumper sticker - 1972, San Francisco, CA. - - - six digits allowed then . . .  “10SNE1”

Clever.

1982, Kalifornia now allows up to seven digits.  The most requested plate?  PORSCHE.

Lottery held and a 20 something fellow a (gulp) Toyota truck owner won it.  “well, one of these days I’ll get a Porsche.”

Last time I saw the plate it was on a 1960’s 356 silver Porsche Carrera 2.  Four cam engine took over 100 hours to put together.
