Yes it's going to be a long one, kind of like Desi and Lucy in that movie The Big Trailer.

From my weight calculations, including the two cars it's going to be about 10,000 pounds including the trailer.  The trailer GVWR will be 13 or 14,000 lb.  The truck has a towing capacity of 13,000 lb.  The maximum combined weight to stay underneath CDL guidelines is 26,000 and the truck has a 10,000 lb GVWR, thus the combined 23,000 lb is within the limit.

The diesel version of the Silverado 2500 is a beast! I think it makes 660 ft lb of torque...

Mark, it sounds like you both are gonna have a great time.

32 feet is a big rig to pull but with a diesel it will be no problem. Assume everything related will be made of aluminum, carbon or magnesium correct?

Yeah, we're going to have to keep the espresso machine for the second build.... Nothing like a caffeine-induced steering wheel jitter to increase the challenge 😃😃

Right now we're racing to beat each other and to learn how to race, I'll be happy if I can have any other car behind me the checkered flag on the first race..... And then I get pretty competitive once I sort things out....

We decided to go with a 32 ft trailer pulled by a Chevy Silverado 2500, plan on building a workshop and living quarters in the front and 2 car transport in the back.

Hi Mark,

Don’t forget the inbuilt espresso machine accessible from the outside!  And an adjacent, easy pull-out awning.  Only half kidg, but I did see this on a big rig race trailer once and it was amazing how much it was being used and enjoyed, not just by those guys but also by others dropping by to socialise! That said, apart from the basic technical requirements, there may be some nice-to-have features that would add to your enjoyment on the road.

Cheers,

Grahame

Mark, sounds like quite a project!

You may want to visit a race or a race shop to see what kind of set up other teams are using. This will give you an idea of what you will need in terms of tools and supplies inside your trailer.

One important question…

Are you guys racing to win?

Or racing to get out of the house for some boys time together?

Quick update on this race team journey, it's a thousand times more than driving a car on a track fast.....

**Caveat**  this project is based upon immediate 2 to 3 months needs and a desire to keep the budget underneath Saturn.

It turns out no regular and quickly available trailers have over a 7' 2" interior height, which nuked the 44 in race car stacker idea....

I went into a plan B mode and started looking at a 24-ft trailer with the cars(12' long, 44" tall) nuts to butts towed by a motorhome, however most motor homes have a 7,000 GVWR max tow rating unless you get into the hyper expensive models, which nuked that idea and I was left holding a bag of air and a curious mind....

Then, the next epiphany this morning... A Silverado 2500 diesel will tow 13,000 lb......I can get a 10,000 GVWR 24 ft trailer which will hold the cars flat nuts to butts and then my son and I will design panels of cabinets, sink workspace, shower, etc that can be raised 48" up off the floor and allow the cars to utilize the entire floor space during transit, and then lowered to the floor when the cars are removed during race weekend.

That will give us 8 ft by 24 ft of living and race prep space during race weekend and then 8 ft by 24 ft of car transport space.

It's amazing how far down a rabbit hole we are going after a Formula driving School life-changing event 🕺🕺🏎🏎😃

If anybody has ideas thoughts and concerns, I am all ears because I feel like Roald Amundsen trying to figure out how to get to the South Pole....

Thanks!

Mark
