This does not surprise me at all.  I was taking our quartz watches to a place which charged about $40-50 for the battery replacement.  A lot for a battery?  Yup, but they also did the pressure testing and gave it a 5 year warranty.  So I didn't think that was too bad.  (Tag wanted multiple times that just for the battery and pressure test - no warranty)

But recently, I took two of our Tags for batteries.  Oh, for the Tag, it's now $165.  Ummm... Hard NO.  Broke out the watch tool kit my wife gave me for Christmas several years ago and replaced those batteries myself.  Can't do the pressure testing, but we're not diving with them anyway, they almost never get wet (even when it's raining outside).

I have one watch (not a Tag) currently needing a battery (and it's still inside the 5 year warranty window), so I'll see what they say about that when I bring it to them.  Hmmmm....

Switching topics slightly, but if you think cars are bad, don't go digging into the watch world.  A friend of mine sent me this article recently.

Anyway, appreciate inputs on how others make their choices on something like this....
