It’s a long answer

We were never winning that war
The pentagon papers said so back in 1967 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentagon_Papers
Sec of Defense McNamara knew it back then
But we stayed for 5 more years and thousands more died and were wounded.
In 1972 we had pulled out the majority of ground troops in Vietnam
That was the deal we made with the North if they would stop fighting
The South Vietnamese were the ones supposed to be fighting the war
The North put on a offensive during the Easter months
They lied
We the United States came back in with air power to repel the north Vietnamese
They had left the peace table and Nixon was pissed
So in December of 1972 he decide bomb the north to bring them back to the table
This operation was called Linebacker  2  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Linebacker_II
It worked
The war ended
POW’s came home !

Clyde,

I was a young child at the time and my knowledge of that war is spotty, at best.  If this is true, it paints a picture that looks awfully familiar today.  For me, it won't make me actually approve of Nixon.  Opening the door to China is one of the worst acts of any president in history, in my opinion.  But it would reinforce my incredibly negative opinion of nearly every snake in congress.
