Sounds like a couple of fantastic trips. Back in 1997 I had a business trip to Sydney that luckily coincided with the F1 race in Melbourne that year.  Because my overall itinerary was literally around the world with additional stops in Jakarta, Hong Kong, London, and back to New York, I was able to add in first class round trip tickets from Sydney to Melbourne over the race weekend for no extra cost. 

I booked a B and B about an hour south of Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula. The scenery is very nice and, while I didn’t get a chance to visit, there are some wineries that might be worth checking out. 

I spent Saturday at the track checking out various viewing locations during practice and qualifying. I ended up in the small grandstand at Turn 5. 

Albert Park is easy to get to as it is right in downtown and I walked there after the race for a nice dinner before heading back to the inn. 

Oh, yeah, David Coulthard won the race!

The flight back to Sydney on Monday morning was notable because Elle McPherson was two rows in front of me. Since it was 1997, she was still looking pretty good!  

Oz is a great country to visit.

No, no, no, no. Retiring in june 2023 and staying in Montreal. Just going to see the races I couldn’t go to when I was teaching. First trip is Spa, Zandvort and Monza in one shot. Then, later on Australia.

Great Clyde, please let me know where you’re staying around Spa. I’m going in 2023 (retiring in june 2023). I would like to get as much information as possible about places to live around Spa. I don’t mind a 45 minute-ride every day to get to the track.
