cLyDe.   Glad that we can still be friends even though I am (again) a car salesman.

Frankly, not thrilled to be selling Fords   Especially since the “Business “ is all about the pre-owned units now.  So, “used car salesman“. But I have that talent and the $ are strong  The new cars at MSRP don’t have much of a deal for the salesperson- even though the ordering process and keeping the customer happy from order to delivery is plenty of work.  I much preferred the “old days” when it was about matching butts to seats.

FWIW, Ford is almost completely out of the car business.  Only car left in the model line up is the Mustang.  Everything else is SUV, Truck, or van.   Huge push to electric vehicles - but, at least for the most part, it is hybrid or electrification of existing models.  “Mustang” Mach - E excepted. As mentioned earlier, F150 Lightning is pretty freaking awesome.  Should be for $100k for the Platinum!

I can tell you that the really cool stuff is on the connectivity side.  New cars have direct cellular/WiFi to factory and even sales and service.  Car can let us know there is a problem before the customer even knows.  Let’s me keep in touch with customer and maintain the relationship between sales events.

App does everything from letting you use phone as your key, remote start (and pre heat or cool - valuable for range in electrics) even drop navigation from computer or phone directly into the car’s nave system including preregistration for chargers along the way.   All important as this (stupid) transition to electric gets shoved down our throats.

I hope I have my Red Barchetta safely ensconced in the barn before they pass the motor law!

That being said.  Having drank from the Ford knowledge fire hise for the past week, Some cool safety stuff already included - precharges the brakes and moves the pads closer to the rotors if when it senses impending doom.  Even goes full stop even if you don’t mash the brakes.  Prevents left turns when approaching traffic poses a threat. Even finds a safe place to weave / evade if vehicle ahead suddenly stops.  All pretty awesome for the head-up-their ass, my text is more important than your life crowd.

Of course, I’d rather have a 308 with a 5 speed and none of it.

Yeah, best wishes from me too.  If you see a decent deal on a Rav4 Hybrid, let me know.  My wife's gas consumption is a killer and her car only has a V6.  Hate to see the credit card statements for people that daily drive a V8.

I expect that cLyDe will disapprove.

However, aside from a couple of gigs where I was basically taken advantage of and screwed over by an asshole employer or two, I have not had a decent job for a year and a half.

Despite many applications and numerous interviews (and all the talk on the news) the offers just weren’t coming.  With my savings completely depleted, desperate times call for desperate measures.

So, I was offered and have taken a position at the local AutoNation Ford dealership (I tried to get in at F of Tampa Bay, but they are either actually not hiring or just didn’t want to hire me).

So, I am back to being all those things that cLyDe complains about (probably, justifiably so).  Evaluating the internet and phone leads, Sizing up the walk ins, and - basically - working people through the acquisition process.

This part of the car world has changed, a lot. Between Covid and the chip shortage there is close to no new car inventory.  Most vehicles are going out the door as customer orders at MSRP.   Order, leave your deposit, get a car in 6-14 weeks.  The ones on the ground are going for a premium (although, in fairness to the bosses, they are not as greedy as some of the competitors).

Most of the sales action is on our used lot.  Flipping people out of junk into junk.  Same junk, but $ are stupid on both ends.  Watched a guy buy a 5yo Acura with 65k on the clock for the price of a new, base Accord today.  Just crazy.

If anyone wants a Ford….

FWIW, the electric F150 is the BOMB.  Drove it today, 6500lbs and 0-60 in under 5.

Did he also suggest the heat sink? That will extend the life of the transistor. I had to modify mine so it could fit in the ductwork. I posted pics of that here a few months ago...

Yeah a bit of a worry. The fan works between 0-60% but it dies t seem to be fast as it was at the half way point. At full speed it blows full air but has just started making a horrible rattle. Something is caught in the fan or it’s falling apart at full speed. It’s quiet at all speeds until 3/4.

Well thanks to Anthony’s emails he pointed out the transistor is about 4 dollars. I’ll change that first cause the fan motor is 100 percent dash out and that’s going to suck! No instructions on the internet on how to pull the dash…..I’ll see if the transistor makes any difference.

Yeah. When the transistor failed in my TR my fan could be at zero or maximum but nothing in between.

In fact, when I fixed it, the transistor itself had not failed. It had merely gotten hot enough to unsolder itself (or maybe it was a crappy solder job or crappy solder to begin with). But simply re-soldering the contacts fixed it for many years after.

I agree with Anthony that yours sounds more like maybe the fan motor.

That was a failed transistor.  This sounds different.  It sounds like the blower fan itself.  Do you have the wiring diagram?  Also, could you post a video?

Hi guys,
After working perfectly for a year I’m having issues with the AC system. The latest is the fan speed is acting up. It works on high and then isn’t smooth for the rest of the range. It’s not constant with the fan blowing The fan also makes a funny rattle when going between 80% and 100%.
I have to tear into the system to replace the expansion valve and the dryer but I am wondering if the fan resistor could be on its way out? There were some postings a few months back from Mondial guys who had fan issues and they replaced/rebuilt the resistor. What’s the symptoms of a fan resistor failing? Any thoughts. The fan does work but it’s very very low output until 80%, then a rattle and then full speed. Would a failing resistor still allow the fan to work but make the fan speed not so smooth and consistent in the increase?
Thanks for your thoughts.
