This is true - I have seen cars with codes stored from years ago.  Misfires, emissions issues etc.  If the light is coming on there is an issue that at the very least is intermittent.  You do have an issue that needs to be addressed as it will get worse.

Just because the light is out doesn’t mean that it is fixed.

The electrical contact(s) may have been re-established due to vibration, temperature, or atmospheric conditions (or all of the above!), but this generation of OBD-II cars will have tons of these glitches stored in memory. My coworker bought a used Mini Cooper a while ago. Check engine light popped up with a specific warning on the dash display screen of what it was. I bought a Snap-On Ethos Edge scanner years ago, so I hooked it up to his car... There were pages of malfunctions that came up. Trivial things like light bulbs, radio, ventilation, TPMS miscommunications, etc. The specific code was there as well, so printed out the test results for him so he could chase them all down.

Now, Mini allows companies like Snap-On to read the whole car’s functions and wipe out the codes. Snap-On pays a fee for this and passes it on to the customer. But Ferrari? Nope. Yes, you can read and clear the emissions codes with any reader because that is federally mandated, but everything else with the car can be proprietary and Ferrari guards that extremely well! Only their own tools and Leonardo’s can read and clear those kind of codes.

So if you’ve been following my saga

It’s over

These cars have a mind of there own

I decided to drive the car on a trip even though it had the suspension fault.

After stopping for gas in Alabama, the fault went away and has yet to return!

Go figure, the clock thing was me, I must has inadvertently hit both of the buttons at the same time and that put the clock in the OFF mode!

Only Ferrari, don’t get me started.

I’ve come to treat this car like my F-4, the harder you drive it the less writes ups you will have.

So that’s it guys and girls, the car is code one.

Next month off to Kent  for the headers .
