No problem I pulled steering wheels on other cars 😃. And also understand the value of marking the wheel before pulling it...

We just finished sorting out a couple race cars and did this exact process minus the turn signals 🤣😂

There is a woodruff key on the shaft to always locate the hub.

There is nothing stopping you from putting the steering wheel upside down on the hub though. That’s up to you to get it right! If you can’t, you shouldn’t be working on your car...

Jokes aside, there were TWO slots on the shaft. One keys the hub, the other keys the signal switch.

Interesting – do you need to scribe re-assembly mark to prevent a cock-eyed steering wheel or is it keyed?

- Remove the six screws holding the steering wheel to the hub.

- Remove the horn button.

- The tricky part is removing the wheel hub. It’s held on with a nylock ring nut. You’ll need to get a special ring nut socket to remove. It helps to use an impact wrench because it was assembled by gorillas.

- With a hub puller, you draw the hub off of the tapered steering column shaft.

- The steering column switch assembly is held on to the column with a couple of screws.

I don’t show the process, but you can see what my Mondial’s looks like disassembled in my video here:

You nailed it Peter! The hazard lights work fine

How much of a job is it to pull the column switch assembly out?

Thanks!

Do your hazard lights work? If they do, then it could be the steering column stalk switch that is not functioning. This is a common problem. They coated the contacts inside with grease so that it can move easily, but after 40 years, the grease dries up, preventing contact. Just a matter of cleaning it up and it should work again (this would mean removing the steering wheel and hub and then removing the column switch assembly). I did this to both my 308 and Mondial.

Do you guys have any insight into why my turn signals don't work? I replaced the flasher relay and they still don't work.... The fuse is good....

I get nothing when I fire it up and move the turn signal stalk up and down.

Thanks!

Mark
