Also, make sure the wiring connector/plug is clean and not marinating in
motor oil and dirt.

If you try to remove the 4 warning lights, you will break the housings. The only thing these hide are holes
in the dash faceplate.
Remove the steering wheel with the 6 countersunk screws and the horn button. The speedo is held in with
2 "L" shaped brackets
that go from the back of the speedo housing to the back of the faceplate. These brackets slide over two
studs protruding from
the housing and are fastened with two little knurled thumbnuts. Simply unscrew the thumbnuts, slide the
brackets off the studs,
unplug the wiring harness from the speedo and push or pull the speedo out of the faceplate, depending on
if you are contorted
under the dash or sitting in the drivers seat.
If you need to send the speedo out for repair, the
ONLY place I would send mine is : https://momamanufacturing.com/
But like Clyde said, most of the time it is the sender. We probably sell 20-30 per year.

There are only like seven electronic components inside the version we had (2 resistors, 2 capacitors, 1 diode and 2 transistors). You could buy all of those for less than $10 at most electronic stores or on the web. If you can solder, you can save yourself $490 doing a total rebuild. Apparently getting the case crimp open to get to the board is the hardest part.
To answer Anthony’s question, we haven’t removed the speedo yet so I don’t know the board construction on that in-depth, but some photos from F-Chat made it look like a single board (no baby boards / connectors). But with older Ferraris you never know. Whatever was on-hand when the car was built was what went in.

Perhaps my approach was too simplistic, but when I had this issue a long, long time ago (I am almost sure it was my Mondial, which would mean 1996/1997), I drove to Ferrari of Washington, jacked my car up, pulled the sender, checked resistance across the terminals, and then went inside and asked the parts guy to check resistance across a new sender. He refused to do it for me. I figured if the readings were significantly different I'd know for sure that the sender was the issue. We had a debate about this but he flat out refused and said I could either buy the sender or not, but he wouldn't help me in this way.
I finally just bought it, installed it, put the car back down, and drove away and it fixed the problem.

PS-It wasn't $500+ in the 90s, but at over $200 it was still an expensive experiment.
