No, you are just blind.  The reason is that he isn't an insufferable prick toward you like he is to almost everyone else.  I'm sure he is a great guy when he keeps the ego in the stable.

Here is what and who I know, since you asked.  I KNOW people that were in combat and I KNOW they didn't use that fact to inflate their own ego.  One example is someone that stormed the beaches at Normandy and then marched and fought their way to Germany.  Is that good enough?  That man would never have acted like Clyde does.  In fact, he didn't like to talk about it and had daily nightmares until his death in his 80s.

Here is the deal, and then I am done with these two.  Both Erik and Clyde have a God complex.  Why, I can only speculate.  But both needing to be Jesus Christ of their little worlds is why they can have their own little personal circle jerk.  Peas in a pod and all that.  In Clyde's case, he has a superiority complex in the form of being the best pilot...bravest man...best driver...best at buying Ferraris...blah, blah, blah.  Erik is the smartest man alive that every rocket company and formula 1 team begs to consult with.  And, now, he gets to have people stand when he enters the room.  He probably pees himself a little each time from the adrenaline rush.  

They are basically the same as the man-bun wearing, latte drinking, soy eating, hipster beta males marching for the rights of trans women to play women's sports or for justice for George Floyd or to save the planet from global warming.  The only difference is that the God complex of the marxists is in the form of a savior complex instead of a superiority complex.

How many times do we need to hear the same crap from these attention starved narcissists?  We get it, people don't get as good of a deal on their Ferraris as Clyde does because they are stupid. They buy the wrong Ferrari because they are stupid.  They don't drive their Ferraris as much as Clyde does because they are stupid.  They crash their Ferraris because they don't drive as well as Clyde does.  They crash their planes because they are stupid doctors who think they can fly but they can't fly like Clyde did.  I mean, he literally insults people who died.  And for what?  So he can still feel superior.  And his mini-me uses Herbie Hancock as a reference source in a meaningless pissing contest.  Brilliant.

As our stumbler-in-chief would say, cmon man!

But that doesn't change the fact that there are better models out there in the Ferrari stable.

Hopefully you have the opportunity to make that comparison someday from a perspective of personal experience.

Right now your car judgement seems on par with your people judgement.

And I know you got Clyde wrong.

And his ability to fix and modify cars are at the same level as yours.  I have had zero issues with my car unlike some people whose brake fluid turned to jelly.

It was a lemon. When I turned 50, I bought a 348. But I didn’t buy a red one, because a Black guy in a red Ferrari is just looking for trouble. I joined the Ferrari Club and once attended a fancy car show in Beverly Hills. The press wanted to interview me. They asked, “Do you own a Ferrari?” I said, “Yes, a 348.” They asked, “Can we see it?” I said, “Well, no. It wouldn’t start this morning, so I drove my Cobra instead.” But when I bought the Ferrari, I walked out into the carport and apologized to the Cobra. I said: “This is for your own good. You’re too valuable. Look, it’s a Ferrari. At least it’s not a Corvette!”
