"...The picture I think of most when I think of the Ferrari buildings is the black and white picture in Robert Dayle’s 250 page F1 book of the 50’s and 60’s – The Cruel Sport showing the Ferrari factory. Ferrari Willie loaned me his copy and then I got my own.

Boy, has time moved on.

That's the thing about the factory and why I'm not really that keen on going to see it.

I received as a gift from my sister the then-just-published book from Michael Dregni "Inside Ferrari". Released around 1990. Was mostly photos but there was some great insight into the history of the company and the evolution of the factory up to around 1989/1990.

That's a key point in time. Despite the company adopting modern techniques, tooling, etc, the cars were still built, more or less, like they did back in the '50s. Plus the old man was still around. Once he was gone, it truly was the end of an era.

I was enamoured with the photos and the text from that book. I was fascinated with factories, foundries, and could just imagine the sounds of the machinery running, drills and hammers, lathes twirling away. With that young imagination, it was like I was there, taking delivery of my "new" Ferrari 328 at the end of the line, hahaha!

Just like you can't go home again, I don't think I would ever feel that kind of emotional experience visiting the 2023 factory. I've seen the videos, plenty of photos on the web, both sanctioned and secretly snuck in. Even Michael noted drastic change since from only a few years ago. It's a corporate industrial complex now.

Indeed, time has moved on.
