It was a 1978, we bought it with 7800 miles in the mid 80s out of Utah from Mike Terry.

A shop didn't find the problem, we did.  And, we had plenty of time inside motors, racing off road and on track behind us.

My brother had a gastro surgeon living next door who brought home an outdated borescope from his clinic... this was in the mid-80s, if I remember correctly, when new he paid close to $80K for it.  He got it back clean... though he used it for gun work.

We saw the valve faces and the seats. The valves rattled in the guides like a baseball bat in a rain barrel.  So don't go there.  You're barking up the wrong tree.

Al had to do the valve job or the thing was NEVER going to pass smog in LA where the kid lived.

As I understood, they did pull the bearing caps and they all looked good.

Shops are always looking for easy ways to sell valve jobs.

The real question is whether a valve job was actually performed or did they just get a credit card receipt for the work?

When my Brother and I realized the valve seats were trashed on our 35K miles Countach LP400S (unleaded gas?), I went by Al Burtoni's place in Gilroy after a race in Monterey.  In a matter of an hour I got 3 different prices on a Valve job...  all over $20K.  The more he talked the higher it got.   Classic Al.

Al said he had a buyer who would pay top dollar on a White/White Countach.   He said to put leaded aviation gas in it, drive it up here (from Vegas) and I'll sell it.   I did, he did.  We dodged a bullet.  We made money.  Al made money.  <<< always

As I understood, the young Arab kid just loved having the car.  Three months and 3K miles later it needed that valve job more than ever.  He paid over $30K for it without flinching.    As I understand it, a year or so later his dad called him home, the car went with him.  Wonder how many valve jobs it's had since?
