Super-low milage.

Desirable spec with a factory stick.

Sold for less than inflation value ($220,991 MSRP in 2001 would be approximately $386,000 today. And what does an 812, the modern-day equivalent, sell for today?).

Probably a guaranteed platinum award winner in any concours preservation class.

And that's what it was more than likely bought for.

When I went to the FCA experience in 2022, there was a 1980 512 BB there in the preservation class. It had only 4,000km on the odometer. Still had the original XWX's on it (yes, 42 year old tires!). Total trailer queen, but the guy won a platinum with it. He was happy. He told me he owned other Ferraris and some muscle cars, all of which he drives, so this BB was purely for show and nothing more. That's his thing and many other guys too.

There are plenty of other 550s out there and they are valued accordingly...

Peter
