It’s most likely the horn button or the relay, right? Heat / cold and current can make the relay go weird ( I’m having a fascinating issue on the 512tr when ever it’s cold out and it always fixes itself when it’s above 0C..)

I agree with Peter, hook up an easy bypass to the horn button that you can press when driving. Eliminate the horn button as a problem. And change the relay. It’s probably old. I just bit the bullet and spent over 200usd to replace every single relay in the 512 with a new Bosch relay. It’s worth it to not have strange problems)….

Another thought... When you pressed the horn button while driving, was the steering wheel pointed straight, or did you turn it slightly? There is a circular contact ring behind the steering wheel hub and a carbon brush to connect the button with the power supply. There may be an issue with the brush not touching the ring at some points, thus not making the horn work.

I looked at my wiring diagram for my GT4. Your car won't be much different. It's a fairly simple circuit; the button, contact ring, relay, fuse (which other circuits are connected to as well) and horn compressor. Test these items (which you've already done most).

I took the condenser out, clean it real good (saw a video on youtube). The sound is a bit clearer. But …….

I sit in the car and push the horn button: Good sound.
I put the key in, turn it just at “ON” and push the horn button: Good sound.
I turn the engine on, wait one minute, push the horn button: Good sound.
I drive away, 7-8 minutes later while on the highway, I push the horn button: No sound at all.
No sound at all for the rest of my sunday drive (35 minutes) celebrating a Ferrari win in Monaco.

I get back home, parked  the car, push the horn button, still no sound.
Turn off really hot engine, take the key out, push the horn and beautiful sound comes out right away.

What’s going on ?

I haven’t checked the relay yet as one suggested.
