Give back to the sport? It isn't a charity. F1 is doing phenomenally well on it's own. Probably in the best shape it's ever been. Injecting cash from the proceeds of this collection would not drop ticket prices at all. It would just fatten team owner pockets as a "thank you for making me rich, so here's a few crumbs for you" bonus...

I'd say this is the smartest and compassionate move he's ever done. Liquidating everything before kicking off does him and the family a tremendous favor. Better to cash out than handle assets after he's gone (BTDT).

Just look at the size of that collection! Look at the building it's housed in. That looks like a hangar for a commercial airliner! Building costs, maintenance/upkeep on each car, INSURANCE... Damn, that alone would probably be seven figures a year. Collections of this size always get split up after the owner passes away, save for something like the Schlumpf Museum (but that's nationally-owned, not private). 

I'd argue this is a very good thing. If one or a couple of cars go to many owners, then the chances of them actually being driven increase. I guarantee none of these cars ever drove again after Bernie bought them. That's the biggest shame.

Bernie’s always been a high percentage of a-hole, but it’s not like anyone in his family needs that money.

 

If he were to give back to the sport that made him phenomenally wealthy, he should’ve created a museum for his collection and left it with a nice endowment. And he could still satisfy his ego by putting his name on the building in 40’ tall letters if he wanted.

 

Dick move to break it up into more collections people will never see.
