Right after Christmas, I was down at our gas station (we only have one) talking to a guy who lives behind me in Winchester and asked him how his Aventador was doing.  He totaled in last June "being an idiot" (his words) up in Truckee.   He was pleased the insurance company paid for it, took a deep breath and decided to not replace it....   THEN the insurance company informed him they would no longer cover him... ever... but wait, it gets better.  His non-exotic insurance company cancelled all their policies too.  His only option was Lloyds and they wanted 13% of the values of their other cars to insure them yearly, with only yearly payments.   So he sold his and his wife's Mercs, the Tesla S and put his son's Toyota truck on his Parent's policy.  He and the wife now drive Honda accords and he pays almost $10k a year to insure them.   I asked him if he had looked at being self insured, he had. He could be self insured, but would have to post a $150K bond and buy a $4M umbrella.
